Statement

My grandmother Bess (Honey) had been an avid amateur photographer who, living in Rochester, NY in the Kodak “heyday”, was fortunate to have first-hand access to the cutting-edge technology of still and moving photography.

Fifty years after Honey’s death, I discovered ninety-two reels of forgotten 16mm film tucked away in my ancestral family cottage in Canada. The footage, filmed by Honey between 1927 and 1945, supplied a seemingly endless source of material for me to “photograph,” without ever having to leave my studio. It shared vignettes of a unique family’s life, a glimpse of history and has become a testament to the photographic vision that has passed down from generation to generation – an unexpected and possibly pre-destined multi-generational collaboration.
